Sight reading, or 'Prima-vista' in latin, is the practice of reading and performing of a notated musical piece that has not been seen or learned before. This skill is crucial for any professional recording or performing musician.

A good way to approach training this skill would be to break down the notation of a whole musical piece into momentary chunks like chords, intervals or even single notes.
