I was having such a bad day today, but that all faded away because I finally reached level 2 of Route VI 😂 I am sooo proud haha. What game did you struggle with at the beginning?
I struggled with anything that has harmonic notes, (Route VI, Chordelius, Intervalis and Inversionist). although Route VI is still the hardest for me. I found that focusing on Departurer and Lander reaaly helped though.
Same here, harmonic notes are my arch enemies. But melodic notes practice didn't help me that much. I have got both lander and departure over level 60, yet these harmonic exercises stay at single digit level......Still, i got progress with them, just really really slow.
It will get “easier” in time - actually your ear will just get better. and I STILL struggle with Solfegiator.. I haven’t sung Solfège in years, but I’m getting there…. 😊. (I actually think it’s because I do my ear training first thing in the morning with my coffee and my voice misses some notes - I’ll go with that!)
Route VI feels like one of the hardest for me, I just signed up for the full gym so some of my games maybe aren't quite yet where they should be, but I still think Route VI is difficult.
A couple of things I have been doing that seem to be making it feel easier is when I am practicing (with my instrument, and away from the computer); I have been playing progressions while keeping a tonic 'drone note' going (either a sustained or repeating 'Do') with the harmony. That has seemed to immensely help with hearing the character of each chord in relation to the tonic. Also, I have started playing a note for a few seconds then muting it on my instrument and trying to hold it in my head for as long as I can (with a timer), it seems like this has been helping my tonal retention, and by doing that I feel like I can hear the 'flavor'/'character' of each chord/note much better.
I think Route VI seems a little more challenging though because the tonic is constantly changing, and you have to grab it really fast on the first play through of the progression. (When you hit the life jacket it only gives you the progression and doesn't give you the tonal center again) Tonedear (available online for free) has an option where you can lock the key, when I use that I almost always get 100%, and past the simple I-IV-V progressions, but with Route VI, I constantly lose the key and feel like it is hard to hear the relations of each chord in the piece.
Hope this is helpful! And happy ear training!
(TLDR; Route VI is a real challenge, working in a fixed key can make this drill easier, with the idea of coming back to changing keys once you are more confident)
Now it's givng me major6/minor6, major7/minor7 with 9ths and 11ths added. Sometimes sharp9 and flat 9. Makes me literaly dizzy sometimes trying to hear the difference.
I don't think I have reached that level of scale spy yet because I do not recall seeing those names haha. What a journey ahead of me 😊
