I did not know how to read music when I joined about a year ago. For the first 9 months I was here I focused on ear training and ignored all of the notation. Flash forward to now, I am finally noticing progress. I don't have to think as hard about what is on the page in front of me, but I'm still probably at a first or second grade level. ha. I'm getting there though! Slowly but steadily.
It's like learning how to read a text written in any language you haven't ever learnt: you need to have a general idea about its theory, rules and vocabulary before you start reading and writing, so don't be too hard on yourself... I think you're doing quite a good job, Jesse!
yeah, once you start getting it your progress skyrockets.
