I'll give Mozart the melody crown but i prefer Ludwig. There's a feel, energy power and depth of his compositions that I gravitate towards.
Symphony no. 5 for example simple and lethargic but powerful and pulls you in. Also his Piano Sonata 29....took me years to understand it....actually I probably still can't comprehend what he's trying to express but I will sit there and listen and absorb what I can
They are different styles and different musical periods. Mozart belongs to the Baroque and Classical periods. Beethoven is the before and after of music. He composed his best works DEAF. It marks the transition from Classical/Baroque to Romanticism. Beethoven is considered the first Romantic, a complete change of era, a virtuoso, a beast. My vote goes to Beethoven.
