The level progression in Melody Jay is wildly out of step with what I understand to be good pedagogy. By level 14, we're being asked to sing major 7th leaps—a feat so difficult that it was against the principles of vocal composition for most of the last 1000 years.
The chorus for the song Take on me by A-ha starts with a major 7th ascending interval. Once you nail that down, you never miss a major 7th again, it's that prominent :)
Amar! ya, Take on Me has always been my reference! I can get sing a M7, but for less-gifted singers like myself, landing exactly on the pitch with precision on both ends is a challenge. In vocal pedagogy, I don't think very many teachers would ask a student to leap up and immediately back down an M7 for literally years. Certainly not in the first month of training.
