I can't hear the difference from major and minor chords and keys. I've been stuck on level 1 of Chordelius for a while. Sometimes major sounds major and its obvious, but usually it sounds minor to me and I choose wrong, and same thing for minor. What do I do?
I suggest, keep practising here on ToneGym a little every day! Breaking through these aural barriers is what it is for :D Someone already pointed out you can practise using the 'exercises' rather than the 'Games' for even faster feedback on your answers
technical exercises like playing all the Maj chords then playing all the min chords, or fun stuff like swapping those chords in songs you already know to hear the difference
- How skilled are you at determining intervals? Chordelius lets you listen to the same chord multiple times before giving your answer, so there's no harm in taking the time to try to hear each note in the chord and the intervals between them.
- Are there any songs you like to listen to or play where you can look up the chords and see which ones are major and which ones are minor? (Those aren't the only types of chords, of course, but they are the most common, so surely it's possible to find one you can learn to recognize.)
Queen had a genius for chord progressions that could bottle a feeling, this breakdown reveals exactly what makes those progressions so emotionally unstoppable 🎹👑
