Use a computer with better sound and use headphones. Then sing out the notes you hear. I have a tough time hearing the inversions because the computer sound is so bad.

I recommend using an instrument (physical or virtual) to recreate what you hear, and also writing down the chord's root and inversions. By doing that while you're playing you get to know every chord's anatomy and the relationship with how it sounds.

@José Luis Velasco I second @Cuantas Vacas I use my keyboard for practice / when I get stuck.

Additionally, I find that practicing chord types / inversions, on both keys and staff paper help a lot with pinpointing the inversion once I was able to sing the individual notes out.
